The Fast Show 2013; it was all set to be one of the best Fast Show’s ever, but mother nature had other ideas…
The gates opened bright and early on the Saturday morning and the thousands of hardcore weekenders began pouring in as unfortunately the rain came pouring down. The Live Action Arena saw the Gymkhana competition run for a good portion of the day providing much entertainment for many, especially to those who got involved and have it a go themselves.
Finally, in the afternoon, the weather gave us the break we needed. The track crew worked all their magic on the right hand lane and we managed to get some racing in. Those that had been sat waiting patiently in the fire up road finally got their moment of glory – an open track. If you did get down the track then you should consider yourself privileged. You have been one of the first handful of people down our freshly laid quarter mile!
The FWD Drag Series also managed to get a round of qualifying in, despite a low turnout in tricky conditions they managed to show the potential that this cutting edge class has.
The track was due to remain open until late in the evening but it just wasn’t to be. The rain came down and that was it for the day.
Once the track was closed it was all back to base camp to get glammed up for the evening ahead in the Pod Palais. As well as providing some shelter and warmth for the evening, there was also a fantastic line up of music and entertainment from Cream Ibiza, DJ Wreckdown and Biffa D, so it turned into a night to remember for many – and that’s without mentioning the Pole & Lap Dancing!
Sunday Began as Saturday ended with torrential rain and unfortunately it never stopped so we were unable to turn a single wheel on the drag strip all day.
The closure of the track didn’t dampen spirits too much as there was still loads more to see and do. The Live Action Arena had a full schedule all day long which began with some drift rides providing the opportunity to get sideways with some of the UK’s top drifters. Later in the day you had the opportunity to put your own wheels through their paces with the 2nd session of the gymkhana course. The overall winner was that man again, serial gymkhana/handling track winner at Santa Pod and Gymkhana GRiD European Champion – Dmitrij Sribnyj who absolutely smashed everyone else’s time.
Also in the Live Action Arena was the show stopping stunt display from Terry Grant followed by the all new TG Girls stunt display topped off by some massive jumps by the Podzilla Monster Truck!
The Show & Shine competition filled up in record time this year so we must apologise to anyone who showed up and was unable to enter – next year this competition will be pre-entry only. Regardless, we still had a stunning array of cars on display and the overall winners were as follows:
Roy Taylor
Vauxhall Zafira GSI

The Nuts stage was alive and kicking all day long with girls and music. The Nuts Miss Fast Show competition was as fun and flirty as ever with games of twister, a cheeky bubblegum game where the girls had to stick their faces in plates of whipped cream and a foil fancy dress display.
The guys from the £1 car were onsite all weekend running a show special competition for their stunning Peugeot 205 GTI and we’ve already had a tonne of calls and messages asking who won. Well unfortunately, if you don’t know it’s you already, you weren’t the winner as he’s probably already enjoying the car somewhere already. Congratulations to James Genders from York who Won our Peugeot 205 GTI Track Car for £1, Well Done! (pictures to follow)
Winning ticket numbers were 758, 371 and 679, prizes were all claimed at the Show.
So that’s a wrap, The Fast Show is over for another year and it was another one to remember, unfortunately not for the reasons we hoped! We must thank all of you that turned out despite the weather, clubs, individuals, traders and racers alike. As the weekend didn’t go as well as hoped we are inviting all ticket holders back to another event in 2013, please see the official statement for all details.

Firstly we'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who braved the elements at this weekends Fast Show. To say we were surprised at how many of you supported the show in spite of the weather would be an understatement!
Having achieved our goal of relaying a brand new surface on Santa Pod's drag strip, we were devastated not have seen it in continuous action this weekend. Despite this, the off track action all went ahead in difficult conditions. The live action arena sessions, stage shows and show 'n' shine competition all took place on Sunday and it was good to see so many of you displaying such a hardy British spirit throughout! We know that for many of you this event is not about the racing but about getting together with fellow club members and sharing your passion of cars. However, as a gesture of goodwill, Santa Pod has decided to offer all ticket holders a free return visit to Santa Pod this year with a choice of 3 forthcoming events. We will throw open the doors to either The Street Nationals (May 11th/12th) or God of the Pod (Sat Aug 17th) or JapShow Finale (Sept 28th/29th). Club areas will made be available at Street Nationals on a first come first served basis.
Advance ticket holders from The Fast Show should register for their free tickets by contacting the Box Office directly on (01234) 782828 to reserve tickets. Gate ticket holders should hold on to their Fast Show tickets and present them at any of the offered events on arrival.
Fill out your e-mail address on the Newsletter page to receive the Santa Pod Email News Letter and you will also be entered into a monthly prize draw to win a £50 Santa Pod Raceway gift voucher. |
